Queen Amethyst
I like to call Amethyst the mother/healer/teacher/lover of the mineral kingdom because it is, for lack of a better term, an all purpose crystal. Feeling low? It'll help. Feeling lost? It will help. Need your mom? It will help. Need reassurance that you're making a positive choice in your life? It'll help. -David (unknown)
This astonishingly lovely Chevron Amethyst sphere was one of my first crystals. She is a weighty 900g, and she makes my heart flutter.
Amethyst, my birthstone (February, Aquarius, yes, I am a crazy free spirit), is a purple form of quartz, ranging from light violet to deep purple. I have even seen pink Amethyst. You can find Amethyst in many places; it is plentiful and affordable. Its beautiful color makes it a popular choice for jewelry, and the crystal forms and geodes are also popular in home decoration.
Amethyst is associated with the crown chakra, located at the crown of the head, “(t)he seventh and primal energy point in the body.” I’m new to learning about chakras, and I rely on the wisdom of others to guide me. One of my favorite books about chakras is Chakras and Self Care by Ambi Kavanagh. It is a beautiful and calming book, “Your essential guide to the healing wisdom of the chakra system.” the colors and layout of the book make it a pleasure to peruse. I use it constantly. Ambi says “Amethyst is a wonderful stone for meditation and rituals and for balancing all the chakras.
According to my Chakra Crystals book by Karen Frazier, another fantastic text, the energy properties of Amethyst include the following: energizes intention, aids manifestation, and amplifies underactive energies. Hmmm. I better start wearing more Amethyst!!
Healing properties, according to Frazier, include:
activates and strengthens psychic ability
improves spiritual awareness
fascilitates peaceful sleep
calms nightmares
enhances critical thinking
improves focus for meditation
provides protection when you travel
balances intuition and intellect
stimulates your mind
supports sobriety
And it just makes me happy. I hold my Queen in my two hands as I sit and do a lovingkindness meditation, and I feel like my intentions are boosted. I remember a trip when I was young, I don’t remember where it was, maybe Mom or Dad can help me out with that, but we were at a Amethyst mine. we were given a bucket and could go pick them up. Maybe I’m imagining this. May this is a youthful dream, but I don’t think so. I love Amethyst. Yeah, I know, I don’t have to capitalize a crystal name… but, come on, she’s a Queen!
